Nina Samuel, Felix Sattler (eds.): Museale Reste
Bildwelten des Wissens Vol. 18, De Gruyter
Remnants challenge the institution of the museum. They are ambivalent figures that open up attributions and thus contribute to the transgression of the museum’s taxonomic, disciplinary, architectural and institutional boundaries.

Museum remnants can be found everywhere – in the exhibition space as well as in the storeroom, in the laboratory as well as in the administration. In each of these contexts, different forms of professional self-understanding, knowledge and practical approach are at play, which determine the status of these remnants. This volume helps to clarify terms such as remnant, waste, traces and margins in the museum context and to re-evaluate them for debates in conservation, curation, art history and museum anthropology.
